Meet Mason, the mold detecting dog. Mason is a rescue beagle living in Dallas Texas. He is specially trained, by the same folks who train the FBI drug and bomb sniffing dogs, to smell mold. He doesn’t know why or who is paying for the mold inspection, he just knows he gets a treat if he is truthful. Mason is an ADDITIONAL tool that can be used to enhance a professional inspection. He is an asset to his human handler who is certified to do mold assessments.
Mason’s nose has an average accuracy of 90%. Most human’s have a less than 30% accuracy in smelling mold. He practices every working day and gets recertified once year. Dog Gone Mold uses him to indicate problem areas or where further testing might need to happen.
He is not endangered at work. Just as a human can smell a septic tank and not get sick from the “septic”, Mason can smell to mold and not get sick from the mold.
